Heat Pumps: Save the Comfort, Save on Energy Bills

W. McNeil Electrical Contracting can help you with a wide range of home heating solutions, including heat pumps and electric heat. Heat pumps are one of the most efficient home heating options available; they deliver clean, steady heat all winter, and comfortable coolness all summer.

Types of Heat Pumps

An air source heat pump can provide whole-house heating and cooling when it is fully ducted throughout the home. These systems are ideal for a new home construction, or as an addition to an existing forced-air system. Adding a heat pump to a forced-air furnace will optimize the efficiency of the heating system.

A ductless heat pump (or mini-split system) makes a good retrofit to homes with “non-ducted” heating systems. Since they have no ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with ducts in central forced air systems.

How Heat Pumps Work

Cool All Summer

During the warmer months, heat pumps work in reverse to keep your home cool and comfortable by pushing the heat and humidity inside your home to the outside. The heat pump unit acts as a fully equipped air conditioner. They’re reliable, efficient and offer the best of both worlds with heating and cooling benefits all in one system.

Warmth All Winter

Air source heat pumps transfer heat energy from the air outside your home to the air inside. They’re very efficient and will work all winter — all the way down to as low as -30 degrees, at which point your alternate heat source will take over. There’s more than enough warmth in the air on a typical Nova Scotia winter day for a heat pump to heat the average home. Air at -18 degrees still contains about 85% of the heat energy it contains at +21 degrees.
